MUD BAY WATER SYSTEM WINS EPA AWARD
The Mud Bay Water System near Olympia has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency as one of the most innovative public drinking water systems
in the nation.
The system was recognized in the EPA's annual Drinking Water State Revolving
Funds Awards.
The Mud Bay Water System won the award for using federal and grant funds to replace
a spring source with a well, allowing it to serve residents who relied on small
wells that had been damaged in a 2001 earthquake.
The awards recognize systems that go further to protect people. Each state can
nominate one project for the award with nominees demonstrating leadership in
innovative financing, planning, partnership or substainable infrastructure. Only
one other state - Alaska - from EPA Region 10 was recognized.)
